Purchase and accessibility

The Java Edition of Minecraft

can be purchased from the official Minecraft website, where it can also be downloaded. You may buy gift codes for other people at the same price as the game itself if you want to give them something as a present. There is no charge associated with trying out the demonstration version. Java Edition is unofficially supported by the Java Runtime Environment on Windows RT and Chrome OS, but not officially supported.

The Bedrock Edition can now be purchased through Google Play, the App Store (iOS and iPadOS), the Amazon Appstore, the Microsoft Store/Xbox app (Windows & Xbox One), the Nintendo eShop (Nintendo Switch), the PlayStation Store, and Amazon.com. The Bedrock Edition was previously available for purchase through the PlayStation Store (PlayStation 4).

In addition, members of Xbox Game Pass can play Minecraft: Bedrock Edition on their console, while members of PC Game Pass can play Java and Bedrock editions on their computers running Windows 10 or Windows 11. Finally, the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate plan offers access to the Bedrock Edition of Minecraft on Xbox consoles, in addition to the Java and Bedrock editions that are available on Windows 10 and Windows 11 personal computers.

The Legacy Console Editions can either be purchased as physical media (with the exception of the Nintendo Switch Edition), or they can be purchased digitally through the relevant platform's online store. For example, the Xbox 360 Edition can be purchased through the Xbox Games Store. The Wii U Edition will continue to be sold in the Nintendo eShop up until the month of March 2023, after which it will be taken out of circulation permanently. There is just one Legacy Console Edition that is not sold on tangible media, and that is the Nintendo Switch Edition. The PlayStation 3 version or the PlayStation Vita version of the game cannot be obtained through a web browser in any way, shape, or form. The Bedrock Edition has superseded all previous versions of the game, including those for Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4. As a consequence of this change, it is no longer able to make direct digital purchases of any of those previous editions of the game.

Customers in North America are only able to buy the New Nintendo 3DS Edition through the purchase of physical media or through the Nintendo eShop. There is no other way to get your hands on this product. Digital versions of either of these choices are not currently offered. This version is no longer available, and the Nintendo eShop will totally close down its operations in March 2023, which is precisely one year from today.
